When You Play Athletics Then You Must See a Chiropractor!

Chiropractors have become very famous among sports players. After the athletes let the proverbial cat out of the bag, their most preferred chiropractors were backed up with people wanting their helpful services. The athletic world would never be the same and the world of athletics has relied on chiropractic services as a primary source of secret pain relief for a few decades now.
The use of this type of care has been examined thoroughly across National Football League teams in the US. When asked about chiropractic care use and referral most answered that they had been treated personally by a chiropractor.
Even though most NFL teams have a full medical team on staff, including chiropractor, many athletic trainers confess that they have even sent players to chiropractors who were not affiliated with any particular team. One thing was crystal clear, all of the trainers, 100%, agree that there are players who use chiropractic care without referrals from their team’s medical personnel.
Many of the trainers also agreed that players with suspected spinal subluxations (the technical term for spinal misalignments) must be referred to a chiropractor; but even more trainers agreed that there is a place for a chiropractor in the NFL. What is more significant is that athletes understand the difference between the team doc and the team chiropractor.
Chiropractic care is not a privilege of football athletes; many other athletes engaged in many different sports count on chiropractic care. John Stockton for one. While admitting his lack of knowledge regarding chiropractic, he also noted that the continued treatment offered by his chiropractor has helped keep him healthy. He knew it dealt with balancing muscles and general health. He claimed that in tandem with is family, he has benefited so much from chiropractic treatment that it is the single most contributing factor in the length and success of his career.
The consultative value and direction a professional chiropractor can and does provide, it is easy to see how people ranging from professional athletes to the leisure athletes all the way to grandparents that are not active can benefit by utilizing a chiropractor.

MRSA In Our Hospitals, Communities And Homes

Most of us have heard about MRSA, and many of us now know of someone who has contracted it: some of us even know of someone who has died. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) is often noted as the “Super-Bug”. Actually, MRSA can be many strains of S. aureus bacteria (it is not a virus), and it is resistant to many antibiotics. There is a continued effort to develop more antibiotics, but it is difficult because of its evolving resistance to more and more drugs. MRSA is most likely to be contracted from hospitals (hospital-acquired infection). Some studies show a contamination rate as high as 64%. There have been random studies performed on common surfaces in hospitals, such as doors, walls in the hospital halls, and elevator buttons, and 80 %of the tested surfaces had evidence of MRSA. Many doctors and healthcare professionals are considering this a global plague – projecting over six million cases in 2010 – with a death rate of over 30 %. The major concern is the limited medical options for care and the sources of contamination that are outside of our hospitals.
In the last forty years, MRSA has become a big problem for hospitals and nursing homes because patients in these are facilities are there because of disease and surgery. These patients are in a weakened state and are very vulnerable because their immunity is lowered. Discovered in 1945, MRSA originally was treated with penicillin. Now it is antibiotic resistant.
A relatively new source of transmission of MRSA is the use computer keyboards since the implementation of computer technology in healthcare facilities. Proper hand-washing procedures and hygiene is critical since MRSA is predominately spread by hand-to-hand contact.
CA-MRSA (community-associated MRSA), have been identified since late 1990′s. It appeared to have no relationship to the healthcare-associated MRSA strain, as there were no risk factors involved such as healthcare settings and the weak and immune compromised. CA-MRSA is concentrated in people that are in groups or group areas such locker rooms, contact sports, gyms, prisoners and military recruits. Although anyone can carry MRSA, (the majority of research shows that MRSA occurs mostly in our noses) and it can enter the body through injuries, incisions and open sores, then there it can develop into a fatal infection. Many people that have MRSA do not have symptoms, and to avoid contamination always properly wash your hands, bandage your cuts and scrapes, and never use others’ personal things such as razors and towels. MRSA can be also picked up from contaminated keyboards, walls, floors, door knobs, as well as direct physical contact.
Headaches, fatigue, fever, swelling, pain and heat around an incision, wound or injury are common symptoms of MRSA. Infections that are more severe are in the joints, bones, surgical incisions, heart, lungs and bloodstream. Many times a bump on the skin will be dismissed as a spider bite. If it doesn’t get better in 3-4 days and you have a fever and flu-like symptoms, this could be MRSA.
The strains of MRSA are crossing the human and animal barrier. Reporting of infection in horses began to increase, and studies are showing that the infection can be passed from horses to humans and vice versa. In the Netherlands five years ago and then in Canada, there was detected another MRSA (ST398) strain in pigs, and now testing in the US has found this strain in farm workers and pigs. It is unclear, if this strain can cause a significant problem in humans, and if it can contaminate food supplies. If it were found that the ST398 can cause infections in humans, an entire new problem with MRSA contamination will develop, and this will further complicate the fight. MRSA can even infect our companion animals, and there is now a risk for our pets when they have surgery at the veterinary clinic. It is not determined if human contamination from pets is a risk for people.
If you are contemplating surgery, most especially elective surgery, for conditions such as lumbar and cervical disc problems, you should research all your options and investigate nonsurgical treatment options, because one major surgery risk is the MRSA contamination of hospitals. Many hospitals do not screen for MRSA, although screening could be done. However, if a patient tested positive for MRSA, even without symptoms, they would be isolated and this could lead to longer hospital stays. From there we could have overloaded, understaffed facilities with less careful hand washing, and more exposure to infectious people.
Should Children See Chiropractors?

While you may think about going to a chiropractor yourself, you may be wondering if if something you should consider for your child. Chiropractic care works great for children. Starting right from birth, children able to get chiropractic care greatly.
Newborns often experience spinal issues during the birth process. This stress can affect the developing nervous system, resulting in colic, sleep disturbances, nursing difficulties and breathing problems. A quick visit to the chiropractor can realign anything that is out of place and relieve many of these discomforts.
As babies grow, they have the possibility of being affected by spinal issues when they learn to hold up their head, when they learn to sit, to crawl and to walk. All the falls, bumps and just their normal activities have the potential to affect their spinal vertebrae. While the trauma may be minor, left to itself it may develop into a long-term problem as the child grows. A simple check up by a chiropractor will make sure everything is still in alignment for proper growth and development. This doesn’t mean you need to rush your child to the chiropractor every time they lose their balance, but occasional preventative treatments can find and correct these issues before they create problems.
As a child grows and starts activities like skating, biking or sports, they may experience various traumas. Small misalignments may occur during these incidents that can potentially lead to more serious issues as they grow. A quick visit for a chiropractic evaluation now and then during these years can straighten these issues out before they become serious.
If a child is injured in a sports or car accident, this is an excellent opportunity to make sure their spine was not injured in any way. Many parents discover that occasional chiropractic adjustments will help with ear infections, asthma, allergies and even headaches. All of these issues could possibly be related to a subluxation (a spinal misalignment) or two. Parents are discovering that their children are no longer experiencing these problems after just a few visits.
It is important for parents seeking treatment for their children to remember that chiropractors do not typically treat diseases or conditions. They merely check the spine for spinal misalignments that affect the proper functioning of the nervous system. When the nerves are free to do their job, everything just functions better.
When you take your child to a chiropractor, ask if they have treated children and babies before. You may feel more comfortable with a doctor who treats children routinely. The doctor will take your child’s case history and perform an exam to see if there are any issues with the spine. All adjustments and examinations are gentle and are specifically done according to the developing status of the child’s spine. Most children enjoy their visit to the chiropractor and look forward to the next appointment. Parents note that with regular chiropractic care, their children seem to be healthier than they were without this care.
While most spinal issues are next to impossible to ascertain for parents, there are a few signs to watch for. Child holds his or her head to one side consistently Restricted range of motion of the head or neck Sleeping patterns disrupted every hour or two Feeding difficulties in infants
Persistent earaches, sore throats, colic, headaches, bedwetting and growing pains may all be signs of minor subluxations of the spine.
Pregnancy and Sciatica

As many of you know, especially those of the female persuasion, pregnancy brings joy unspeakable and a couple of minor setbacks including morning sickness, gestational diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, and low back pain.
Backache is probably the most common and second most annoying problem (but, I think vomiting every day would be worse).
My approach is quite unique than most chiropractors. (There are over 250 different approaches to treating the spine.) Particular emphasis is placed upon relaxing the muscles of the spine and pelvis and can use an instrument to gently reposition the bones of the spine removing the pressure of pinched nerves.
This tool is extemely effective and doesnt require that I use my hands to forcefully treat you (i.e. no twisting or popping).
Chiropractic has been proven safe and effective treatment for many common ailments. There are over 500 studies on chiropractic in the treatment of uncomplicated low back pain.
There are over 500 studies on chiropractic in the treatment of low back pain alone.
