7 Easy Stress Management Techniques for Newbie

April 3, 2010 by Lester Sim

Stress is just as true as life itself. Stress has been documented in infants as well as adults, though of course the levels of stress would vary for these two different age groups.

If you are constantly on the run, couldn’t remember where you park your car, hardly any time for leisure, breathe out heavily, distance yourself from social life, look much older than your actual age, think about work even before your bedtime, lead a life full of schedules… chances are you are stressed.

Here are a few easy steps to manage stress:

1. View Stress Positively Sometimes a small dose of stress can motivate us to work harder to bring about more fruitful results. While it is true that all work and no play makes for dull living, all play and no work isn’t very effective either.

2. Learn From the Best Look for someone you know who never forgets to smile at everybody, wave and be friendly despite the hustle-bustles of life. This is the person you should learn from on how to manage stress.

3. Remember to Exercise Take a 20 minutes walk outside the office building whenever tension really gets out of hand, or just bring your gym clothes and go to a park after work for a jog. Exercising regulates blood flow and pumps oxygen from the heart to the brain, making you energized and more alert.

4. Identify Causes of Stress For example, if reading this article makes you dizzy, perhaps you should begin to navigate to other segments of this website or get some hot chocolate drink and watch TV instead.

5. Live One Day At a Time Utilize your life daily by focusing on chores that should be done for the day. Worrying too much about tomorrow won’t help that much. God willing, if you’re honest, sincere, did your duty accordingly, hear no evil and see no evil; you are more blessed than 250 billion people on this planet.

6. Eat, Drink, Sleep, and Be Merry! Given that you get plenty exercises each day, eating and drinking should be something to enjoy and look forward to. Phrases like calorie counts, organic foods, and dietary supplements are the things written inside beauty magazines to encourage people to live up to other people’s expectations. Buy a new dress and change your perfume. Learn to love and respect yourself as you are. Get at least 8 hours of sleep. You rule your life so nobody can tell you how to live. For singles, a Friday night at some club with a cute companion sounds fine, too!

7. Have Time For Yourself Indulge in a hobby and take time out to do it. You can sing in the shower, listen to music, get involved in sports that you enjoy.

Hopefully you can adjust or adapt these stress management techniques to suit your lifestyles and be able to successfully manage stress.

Teen Stress – What Parents Can Do To Help

April 2, 2010 by Lester Sim

The teenage years are a very stressful time. Teenagers are stressed about many things, such as school, peer pressure, winning acceptance to certain peer groups, and physical appearance. Teens also go through physical and mental changes as well as possibly experiencing identity conflicts.

Some parents are wise enough to know that this is the time when their teenagers need more and more privacy to cope up with the stress that the physical and mental changes brought to them. There are several tips for parents on how to deal with teen stress:

1. Make sure that your home is a place where the teenagers can return to replenish their energy, feel safe and protected. Many teenagers have limited resources and have nowhere to escape but to their own homes. Make sure that they eat right and get adequate rest, not only so that they grow accordingly, but also to help them handle teen stress more effectively.

2. Give guidance on how to solve problems. Talk to your teenagers to find out and understand more about their needs and fears. Go through each one with them, and then listen to their suggestions on how to solve the problem. Give suggestions of your own when necessary. This will help them to develop their problem solving and decision making skills as they solve their own problems. Also, you help to create self-awareness in your teenagers by developing useful strategies in problem solving, which will guide them for the rest of their life.

3. Apart from you and your spouse, who else is there that serves as a reference when your teenagers have issues to discuss? Find out about that person, and get to know how much this person can be trusted with keeping your family values. Also find out whether he/she is able to provide sound advice and support for your child. Teenagers sometimes refer to other adults, such as a relative or a counseling teacher, for teen stress solutions.

Finally, as parents, be open to your teenagers. Listen to what they have to say. Be sensitive to their feelings. Provide the necessary support. Be there when they need you. Always provide a shoulder to cry on because teen stress can be frustrating. Be your teenagers’ best friend. Be the ones that your child can trust and count on. Your good actions help your teenagers to prepare as the walk the steps to adulthood.

Coming Up With the Best Weight Training Routine

November 22, 2009 by Lance Baker

I’ve been lifting weights since high school, and that’s been well over a decade now. I love the clarity of mind that a good gym session gives me, and feeling stronger definitely contributes to my overall energy levels and well being. It never hurts to be a little stronger too, as I’m sure that’s done some good things for my confidence levels, even if I don’t realize it.

I like to be as steady as I can with my workouts. It keeps things easy and routine, and I end up not neglecting any part of my body this way. Still, I’ve never really known whether to go with one or two muscles per workout.

The best way to determine the answer to anything is to test each possibility. This is what I’ve done in the past, as I tried many different combos.

I’d do chest with triceps, back with biceps, and shoulders with legs. I had a solid three day rotation, meaning that I was hitting up most of my muscle groups twice per week.

The advantages of this are obvious. You’ll end up working your muscles more, and it’ll take less workouts per week to achieve the same workload for each muscle.

On the other hand, it was taking me at least 90 minutes per workout and sometimes I didn’t have time for this. Others also believe that hitting each muscle twice in a week is overdoing it.

A few years ago, I decided to switch my workout routine to one that just focused on one muscle group per session. This has saved me a lot of time, and I’ve taken advantage of the extra time.

How are my results though? I have to say that my results are just as good, as long as I’m consistent. The key to this all is to make sure that you go at least 4-5 days per week. Otherwise, you won’t be giving each muscle group the attention it needs.

Statistics reveal that millions of people experience symptoms of anxiety disorder every year and that more women are affected than men. Though anxiety disorders can be diagnosed, in most cases, the root cause of the problem will remain a mystery.

According to the National Institute of Health, approximately 10% of people who experience a panic attack become housebound and refuse to leave their home alone. Almost 30% of people suffering from panic disorder lose their job, get demoted, or settle for a job that they are overqualified for because they cannot handle their regular job responsibilities. Many people suffering from panic disorders and anxiety problems have great difficulty maintaining healthy social relationships and living a productive life.

Sufferers of panic disorders need not lose hope since there are available treatments for the condition. Treatment may include therapy, prescription medicines, supplements, lifestyle and behavioral change or a combination of these options.

There are two main types of treatments for anxiety. The first addresses only anxiety symptoms. Most people who experience elevated feelings of anxiety are familiar with symptoms such as tightness in the chest, sweating, heart palpitations, extreme nervousness, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty breathing. There are several natural ways to reduce these symptoms and help restore the person’s feeling of control and balance.

The second category of treatment on the other hand, tries to cure anxiety disorder by resolving its root cause. Often times, the root of cause anxiety is purely psychological. Common psychological cause may include a past trauma, a present situation or experience, or a negative projection into future events or situations.

Both of these treatments provide options for those who are suffering from anxiety, panic disorder and anxiety attacks on a regular basis. These conditions can be very debilitating, and interfere with day-to-day life. In some cases, anxiety may be coupled with depression, insomnia or other mental health conditions.

The severity of the symptoms varies on a case to case basis. In any case, tracking the symptoms would help in the formulation of an effective treatment plan and help the sufferer handle their condition better. In extreme cases, medical intervention may be needed if the symptoms are so severe that it already interferes with a person’s everyday functions.

It may take time to see any noticeable improvement but panic disorders can be treated. There are actually different options that can be used for treating panic disorders and each treatment plan must be tailored fit for each individual.

Are You An Apple Or A Pear – Weight Loss Now

June 3, 2009 by Teresa Rogers

These days obesity and being overweight has reached widespread proportions. It is no doubt that so many people want to lose weight. There are many reasons to lose weight from the visual reasons, like looking good to draw a companion or to fit in those magnificent pants to what is possibly the most crucial reason and that is for excellent health.

Every body carries their fat stores a little differently. One person may have large thighs and a huge butt but a fairly lesser upper body and the next person will hold it in the core in the abdominal region. If you carry your fat in your butt and thighs your body is shaped more like a pear. If you carry your fat in your abdominal region your body is shaped more like an apple. The way that you carry your fat to a great extent affects your wellbeing.

Women who are pear-shaped and hold all of their excess weight in their butt and thighs have a health advantage over the women who are apple shaped. They may strive more with finding the clothes that fit and they may still have body image issues but they do not have the health troubles that trouble the apple-shaped women. The fat that accumulates on your butt and your thighs is not automatically a health problem.

On the other hand the fat that accumulates around the mid section puts the person at risk for such things as heart disease, diabetes and other health risks. The problem is that the fat in the middle collects around the internal organs. This prevents their organs and their bodies from optimal purpose. Pear-shaped individuals do not have this same problem because none of the internal organs are found in the butt and thighs.

In order to find out is you are an apple or a pear shape you need to calculate your waist-hip ratio. Divide your waist measurement in inches by your hip measurement in inches. If the result is 0.8 or less you are shaped like a pear and if it is more than 0.8 then you are an apple shape. For case in point, you can take a 28-inch waist and divide it by a 38-inch hip and the result is 0.73 or a pear shape while that same hip of 38 inch with a 32-inch waist computes out to a 0.84 or an apple shape.

While a pear may bewail her big butt and thunder thighs it is as a rule more of a body image difficulty, while the apple can be facing some very vital health risks. Exercise and a wise diet are important if you are apple shaped and losing even as little as 2 inches off your waist can prevent your health risks. If you are an apple, augment your cardio and focus on consuming a diet rich in fiber by consuming more fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes, and lean protien sources such as fish and skinless chicken.

When it comes to weight loss an apple shaped individual does have an advantage because weight that accumulates in the abdominal section comes off quicker than the fat that accumulates in the butt and thighs. Butt and thigh fat is quite stubborn and it will take much more effort to get it to finally come off.

You cannot control the type of body that you have and how you hold excess fat but you can do whatever is possible to prevent the excess fat in the first place or lose it if you already have it.

Positive Affirmations, Why They Work

May 3, 2009 by Carrie Spry

Your subconscious thoughts determine almost everything in your mind. In order to build a positive mind, you need positive statements. You can create positive subconscious thoughts by consistently repeating positive statements. These statements are positive affirmations.

Positive affirmations will reinforce the new positive image you hold for yourself, once they are instated. Positive thinking will replace negative thinking on a conscious and subconscious level. You will then have access to all of the positive energy you have within and create a new positive reality.

When using positive affirmations, it’s important to let yourself really feel them. You need to fully experience the emotions of each one. You must believe that each affirmation is true. This will help your positive changes happen more quickly.

You should be using affirmations frequently for at least 30 days. It usually takes three weeks to make a change in your mental image and for some people it may take longer. That’s why I suggest 30 days. You can write them down and take them with you until you know them by heart. This shouldn’t take long, because you are using them so frequently.

Some examples of places to use them are, waking up in the morning, each time you go to the bathroom, brushing your teeth, washing your hands, before each meal and before you go to sleep at night. These are just examples and you can create your own situations. But to achieve the best results and to not forget to use them, you should use certain points in the day that will trigger you into saying them, as in the suggestions above. If you want, you can set some type of alarm and say them every hour on the hour. Another idea is to tape them on the ceiling over your bed, on your mirrors, your refrigerator doors, your cupboard doors, on the clocks, etc. It’s your choice.

Another thing that will help you change your thought patterns more quickly is to continually remove all negative thoughts you experience daily. If you allow negative thought to dominate, your positive affirmations will not make any progress. As soon as you notice a negative thought, eject it.

It is normal in the beginning to have negative thoughts, and it will take a few days to become conscious of them when they actually happen. What you will find is that in the beginning, after a few hours, you will realize that you are thinking negatively. You will be disappointed in yourself, that you didn’t catch it sooner. But don’t be discouraged, you are already moving in a positive direction, because before now, you didn’t even notice you were thinking negatively. Make sense? After a few days, it will only take you moments to realize and before long, you will notice before you even say it or think it.

Hypnosis – How Can I Hypnotize Others?

April 29, 2009 by Mark Allan

Hypnosis is a special state of mind that includes heightened suggestibility in the unconscious willingness to follow instructions. This trance is really a state of focused concentration.

The main idea of hypnosis is to create a suggestible state of mind in the subject. And then implants the desired suggestions. Many times, you do not want someone to realize they are being hypnotized.

Hypnosis works best when the subject is relaxed and free of tension. It is helpful, if they are in a comfortable atmosphere and relaxed state of mind.

When you are hypnotizing someone voluntarily, you can simply ask them to a cooperate. Have them try to become aware of the areas where they are tense and focus on them. Get them to concentrate on relaxing.

If you are trying to hypnotize someone without their knowledge, you can still try and make them relaxed and reduce any tension. Insure that there are no obvious distractions, like loud noises or bright lights.

The secret to hypnosis is in getting someone to focus inwardly and enter a trance or state of suggestibility. Once they are in a trance, you can begin implanting suggestions.

There are many courses and books that will show you the secrets to hypnosis. You can also find these secrets at websites such as hypnosis-x.info, or by searching the Web.
